Digitising the Corporate Income Tax Pipeline

The Mission (The Target)
The objective was to digitise the Corporate Income Tax (CIT) workflow for Deloitte Hungary. The existing process was a highly manual, spreadsheet-driven labyrinth riddled with potential errors and devastating compliance risks. The mission was to design a central portal that would ingest client data, validate it through complex fiscal logic engines, and secure executive sponsorship for full-scale development.
The Complication (The Enemy)
- Data Chaos: Thousands of rows of fiscal data maintained in disparate Excel spreadsheets.
- Compliance Risk: Manual entry points created significant vulnerabilities for multi-million-euro tax errors.
- Stakeholder Resistance: Consulting partners were deeply entrenched in the legacy spreadsheet workflow.
- Resource Asymmetry: A constrained R&D budget aimed down the barrel of a massive architectural challenge.
The Intervention (The Operative’s Strategy)
1. The Validation Engine
I replaced the static spreadsheet model with a node-based data validation interface. This system ingested raw financial data and visually highlighted logical inconsistencies before submission, actively preventing compliance breaches.
2. The Functional Prototype
Knowing that a PowerPoint would not secure regional funding, I engineered a high-fidelity, fully interactive prototype in Axure RP (the preceding standard before advanced Figma prototyping). This prototype mapped the entire data-ingestion pipeline, simulating the complex validation logic and outputting a generated tax return.
3. Executive Buy-in
By delivering a tangible, clickable experience that visualised the risk mitigation and operational velocity, I bypassed abstract theoretical arguments and secured the necessary budget from the regional board.
The Result
- Sponsorship Secured: The interactive prototype successfully validated the business case, resulting in full project funding.
- Risk Mitigation: The node-based validation logic preemptively eliminated manual entry errors, securing millions in potential compliance fines.
- Workflows Digitised: Substantially reduced the turnaround time for corporate tax processing by centralising the logic engine.
Takeaway: When dealing with entrenched legacy systems, show, don’t tell. A functional prototype is the ultimate weapon for securing executive capital.
